Fishing Spider

The Fishing Spider is a member of the Nursery Web spider category. Fishing spiders are able to skim across water and some even delve beneath the water to catch tadpoles and tiny fish. They also like to eat small insects. They can grow to be the size of your palm. They are generally shy and don't like to interact with humans. If threatened, they will bite to protect themselves. It's about like being stung by a bee.

Fishing spiders, like other nursery web spiders, have a large female and a much smaller male. The male will often allow himself to be eaten, after sex, so the female is nourished. She then carries the egg sack around with her in her front paws until she finds a safe spot for the babies to hatch. That is the only point she really makes a web.
