Peony
The peony or Paeonia might seem Asian, but it actually is native to Europe and North America as well. They tend to grow in bushes with large, showy flowers of many petals. They peony is often associated specifically with China, and is a treasured symbol there. In Sutton the peonies begin budding in late May but the large blossoms tend to open up in early June.
You'll often see ants climbing on peony buds. They are drawn to the nectar, and by licking away the nectar they help remove it. While this does help the bud to open, peony buds can open on their own without this ant activity. So while it's helpful, it's not necessary.
