Kayak East Waushacum Pond Sterling MA
East Waushacum Pond in Sterling, MA would look like the perfect place to kayak. The large expanse of Wachusetts Reservoir is completely off-limits to kayak. But East Waushacum Pond has Sholan Park with ample parking and a swimming area as well. Unfortunately, despite doing research beforehand, we drove all of the way out there to be told that only Sterling MA residents were allowed to participate in this lake's beauties. There are guest passes available, but you have to know a Sterling resident and then go to their Town Hall during official hours. So the lesson here is not to go to East Waushacum Pond unless you're already prepared with your permit and access rights! Here's the map of where the pond is located, in relationship to the large Wachusetts Reservoir. 
Here are tantalizing looks at how close we were to kayaking there. All we had to do is unstrap the kayaks and hop in. I love the instructions that say "power boats must travel in a counter clockwise direction". It sounds like a game of musical chairs! "And then when the music stops, every power boat immediately tries to land on the nearest lily pad ..." 
No pets allowed. 
Intersting how half of the sign about "Cles Have Town Stickers" is blocked permanently by the open door. Surely they could have done that better :)
