Larder Beetle - Bugs and Beetles in Sutton Massachusetts
Larder beetles are common, harmless household pests. They often just happen into a house while migrating. If there is a left-open-food problem, they can stick around. Work to keep food sealed up.
Technically these are the Dermestes lardarius species, belonging to the carpet beetle, or Dermestidae, family.
The larder beetle has a distinctive black - brown - black set of stripes. Another way to put it is that they look like an all-black oblong beetle that has a light brown stripe across its center, horizontally. There are little black spots on this central tan stripe.
