Eastern Pondhawk Dragonfly
The Eastern Pondhawk dragonfly is also known as the Common Pondhawk. There's nothing common about it! It looks absolutely stunning. The females are emerald green, while the males are a dark, rich blue in color. All of these photos are of a female. They were taken by me in Sutton, Massachusetts on July 11, 2017.Eastern Pondhawks are found all along the east coast of the US and up into Canada. They even go down as far as Central America. They only live as adults for perhaps two weeks! What a short, brilliant lifespan to fly around. They eat mosquitoes - take good care of these!
