The Merrill Pond State Reservation in Sutton MA has several short walking trails around a string of quiet ponds.
About two thirds of the way across the dirt bridge is a concrete and metal barrier. This is the end of the road for kids - I wouldn't send them across. Adults can try to make their way across the stream itself in low-water times. Or they can try to "tightrope" across the metal beams - but if you fell you could be seriously hurt. The trail does continue on the other side, so I'm not sure why they haven't made this more safe for walkers.
