Kayak Maspenock Lake Hopkinton MA
Maspenock Lake, also known as North Pond, is located right on West Main Street in Hopkinton Massachusetts. It's just southwest of the 495 interchange. It looks like a gorgeous lake to kayak on. Unfortunately, the place to put in is AWFUL. There's a small parking area with room for perhaps three cars. It's clearly marked as a place to put in boats, with all the standard signs about no access after dark and so on. It's specifically meant as a place to launch boats. But instead of having even a semi-smooth area to launch your kayak, there are giant boulders in a large pile between the parking area and the water. The only way to put a boat in is to climb precariously across all the boulders. This might be fine for short, light kayaks - but for heavier ones it could prove a nightmare. Here are photos of this "main" boat launch area. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Looking from a water-edge boulder back up toward the parking area. ![]() The lake does look lovely from here. ![]() Discouraged, we then went over to the "alternate put-in area". This is by a fenced-in public building on the northeast side of the lake, again on West Main Street. There really isn't parking here. And again, you have to put in over boulders - but this time they are coated in slimy weeds. So it's even less safe. ![]() ![]() ![]() In the end, we gave up and went elsewhere. It just wasn't worth it to us to risk breaking our ankles or damaging our kayaks.
